Biography

Peter Schaefer is the Associate Dean for Academic Operations at Northeastern University – New York City. In this role, he facilitates the work of several colleges on the NYC campus to help ensure the quality of academic programs. He collaborates closely with faculty, students, and staff with an emphasis on experiential learning, student experience, as well as clear and efficient exchange of information.

Prior to joining Northeastern, Schaefer held several positions at Marymount Manhattan College serving most recently as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In this position, he worked alongside faculty on policy creation and deployment. In addition, he was responsible for aligning workflows between academics and related departments across the College and for leading educational initiatives. He also served as the Chair of the Communication & Media Arts Division for many years where he helped build programs and foster a climate of collaborative learning.

Schaefer also holds a faculty position as an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Communication Studies. He has published several articles and book chapters on internet history in the United States, and he has taught a wide range of courses from a critical-cultural perspective in Communication and Media Studies.
Peter holds a PhD and MA from The University of Iowa and a BA from Northwestern University.
