As a Northeastern NYC student, New York City is your campus. That’s why we’re inviting all new students a week before classes begin—so you can explore and familiarize yourself with campus and the city for a whole week, uninterrupted.

This year, Welcome Week will be held during the week of August 31, with classes beginning Wednesday, September 9. Throughout the week, a variety of programs will provide you ample opportunities for you to begin to find your community here on campus. Some of these programs are more educational— our Health and Safety at Northeastern NYC session, while some are more social—like our off-campus excursions to the Bronx Zoo or Times Square. No matter which ones you attend, you’ll be sure to meet other students who share the same passions and similar interests as you! 

Welcome Week is also a time for you to meet your Orientation Leader and ask them any burning questions you may have—academic, social, you name it! Our team of Orientation Leaders are students who are dedicated to making your transition to Northeastern the easiest and most enjoyable experience it can be. New students received Welcome Week and Orientation communications to their emails with details on how to register through Engage.

Further Orientation and Welcome Week events details will be coming soon. Some of our signature Welcome Week events that you won’t want to miss are our Orientation Excursions, where you’ll join Student Leaders for trips around NYC! This will be a great opportunity to get to make friends, explore the city, and learn how to use the NYC Subway system. All Welcome Week and Orientation events are optional and free to new Northeastern NYC students!

Activities include a sunset cruise, trip to Coney Island, Broadway show and trivia, tarot card readers, yoga on the terrace, and much more!

When is Orientation & Welcome Week

Orientation and Welcome Week takes place the week before classes begin. This year, Welcome Week will be Monday, August 31, 2026 through Tuesday, September 8, 2026 with some weekend events!

Is Orientation & Welcome Week required?

Yes. There are some events throughout Welcome Week that all students are required to attend. Events that you are required to attend will be denoted as such on your orientation schedule.

There are also plenty of social events that aren’t required but are highly encouraged. As much as this week is meant to help acclimate you to campus, it’s also a great opportunity for you to begin making new friends. There are plenty of social events to go to and make friends on our excursions to the Bronx Zoo, Coney Island, and a Sunset Cruise, to name a few!

Can I bring my family to these events?

Unfortunately, no. Welcome Week events are intended for new students only to allow them space right off the bat to acclimate themselves as new Huskies. Students are welcome to meet up with families before or after Welcome Week programs if they’d like, but the programs and events themselves are student-only.

What should I wear to Welcome Week?

There is no official dress code for any of our Orientation or Welcome Week events. All that matters is you wear something that you feel comfortable in. Please note that part of Welcome Week involves meeting members of your academic departments, who may require or recommend a specific dress code during the academic sessions on Thursday.

How much does Welcome Week cost?

Welcome Week events are designed to be free for all students. We’ve even worked in many opportunities for free food on campus for students to take advantage of!

All off-campus excursions are free and students are only expected to pay their subway fare.

Where can I find the Welcome Week schedule?

The Welcome Week schedule will be available to incoming students via Engage. More information will be made available in August, so make sure to come back to this page and check your Northeastern email for those updates!
