Appointments and Services Information
Scheduling an Appointment
Counselors and CWC’s nurse practitioner are available to meet with students in-person or via video/phone sessions. Please note that students must be physically located in New York state at the time of their appointment.
To schedule an appointment, please call 212.774.0700 or send an email to [email protected]. Kindly include your phone number so we can call you to discuss next steps.
If you are already receiving counseling and/or psychiatric services at CWC, you may contact your counselor directly to coordinate your upcoming appointments.
Initial Consultation Appointment
After you request an appointment, you will be scheduled for an initial consultation with a CWC counselor. This is a brief phone conversation in which the clinician will conduct a brief assessment and make recommendations for next steps, which may include scheduling an intake appointment at CWC.
Drop-In Visits
Drop-in visits are available Monday through Friday – 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Drop-in appointments are typically shorter than a full therapy session (20-30 minutes) and students do not need an appointment. A drop-in session is a brief session for urgent matters, or if you feel you are in crisis.
To schedule a brief drop-in appointment, please contact us at [email protected] or 212.774.0700. If you would like an in-person drop-in, please come to the CWC in Nugent 352 during drop-in hours.
Medication Management
CWC’s nurse practitioner offers in-person and virtual appointments.
Students interested in medication refills or a consultation must first meet with one of our counselors. Once you’ve met with a clinician, they can help schedule an appointment with our psychiatric nurse practitioner. (See the section below on psychiatric evaluations for more information.)
If you are interested in making a medication management appointment, please call 212.774.0700 or email [email protected] to schedule an initial consultation. Please note: CWC does not prescribe certain medications, such as Benzodiazepines and ADHD medications. Additionally, CWC does not evaluate for ADHD. Please contact us for referrals if you need assistance.
Should I Talk to a Counselor?
Everyone, at times, feels down, overwhelmed, worried, or confused. Often students can manage these moments on their own or with support from family or friends. Sometimes, however, problems may seem too much to handle, and studies or relationships may suffer. If this happens to you, CWC can help.
How Can Counseling Help?
- Counseling provides support and understanding. Your clinician will listen without judgement.
- Counseling lets you discuss anything; no topic is off limits. Sessions are confidential.
- Counseling offers perspective.
- Counseling helps identify goals and potential.
- Counseling helps you feel better about who you are and who you can become.
How Long is Counseling?
Counseling sessions last around 45-50 minutes. The length of counseling ranges from one or two sessions—enough sometimes to get back on track—to a maximum of 12 sessions. Students who would benefit from longer-term therapy are offered referrals in the community.
